SUMMARY:WeGROK for Two Training
DESCRIPTION:WeGROK designers Jean Morrison & Christine King will guide you through this process to help you make decisions or plans\, or settle conflict.\nAbout this event \nJoin WeGROK designers Christine and Jean as they walk you through this comprehensive “communication coach-in-a-box” method drawn from over 40 years of their collective experience. \nWeGROK is a self-guided process specifically created for two people to use when making important decisions or plans\, wanting to find common ground and resolution for a conflict\, or just wanting to be mutually understood and seen for their intentions. \nBecause conflict can be scary and many of us are conflict avoidant\, WeGROK was designed to give people a safe container to explore their disagreements. Either two people can use the process on their own\, or a trusted friend/counselor can guide them through the steps. \nIn this training\, you will be introduced to the six dialogue stages\, given an opportunity to practice several of the stages\, observe Jean and Christine as they walk through a situation\, and have the opportunity to ask questions. \nWho will benefit from this training? Mediators\, Counselors\, Therapists\, Partners\, NVC Trainers\, and anyone who wants a clear\, comprehensive\, and supportive way to compassionately move through challenging conversations and topics. You can purchase a WeGROK here. \nWhile WeGROK is meant to be used by two people\, this training is designed for individuals wanting to learn the process. However couples are welcome and we ask that you sign up individually. \nSign up! \nPlease note the time is 10AM-1PM Pacific Time. Please adjust the time for your time zone. \nRefunds are available up to one week in advance of the training. You will receive a full refund minus the nonrefundable Eventbrite fees

SUMMARY:Sociocracy in Toronto with Jerry Koch-Gonzalez: Open Evening and Weekend Intensive
DESCRIPTION:Does the way you are organized and make decisions match your values?\nCohousing Options Canada is delighted to welcome Jerry Koch-Gonzalez\, cofounder of Sociocracy For All\, who is flying in from Boston for three days of hands-on learning in Toronto this November. \nSociocracy (also called Dynamic Self-Governance) is an inspiring alternative to the win-lose approach of majority rule and to the muddled approach of not-well-organized consensus. It is practiced in member- and staff-run nonprofits\, cohousing communities\, housing and worker cooperatives\, and activist organizations. \nWhether you are part of a cohousing group\, a co-op\, a board\, a team or a community organization\, come learn a practical way to share power\, make good decisions together and keep your group growing. \nRegister on Eventbrite \nYour three days\nFriday\, November 27: An Introduction to Sociocracy (open evening)\nDoors 6:00 pm\, event 6:30–8:30 pm\nRoncesvalles United Church\, 240 Roncesvalles Avenue\, Toronto \nA taste of sociocracy for anyone who is curious. Jerry leads a real 90-minute introduction with activities\, so expect to get up\, take part and try it for yourself. If it sparks something\, you can keep exploring with the weekend intensive. \nCost: $15 \nSaturday\, November 28: Weekend Intensive\, Day 1\, The Basics\nDoors 9:00 am\, workshop 10:00 am–4:30 pm\nParkdale Library\, 1303 Queen St W\, Toronto \nThe primary approach is to learn by doing\, supported by short lectures and question-and-answer time. You will practise consent decision-making\, dealing with objections\, generating proposals and selecting people for leadership roles\, and you will leave with a template for running meetings. \nSunday\, November 29: Weekend Intensive\, Day 2\, Going Deeper\nWorkshop 10:00 am–4:30 pm\nParkdale Library\, 1303 Queen St W\, Toronto \nBuilding on Saturday\, we go more deeply into organizational and facilitation challenges: designing distributed organizational structures\, feedback systems and communication skills for governance\, and how to implement sociocracy in your own organization. \nCost\n\nWeekend intensive (Saturday and Sunday): $225\nSaturday only: $175\nSunday only: $175\nFriday evening only: $15\n\nSpace for the weekend intensive is limited to about 40 participants. Jerry’s books will be available for an extra charge. \nRegister on Eventbrite \nWhat you will learn\n\nConsent decision-making\nPractice dealing with objections\nGenerating proposals\nSelecting people for leadership roles\nA template for meeting formats\nDesigning distributed organizational structures\nFeedback systems and communication skills for governance\nHow to implement sociocracy in your own organization\n\nSociocracy encompasses three core elements: decision-making by consent\, organizational structure through linked circles following the principle of subsidiarity (delegating authority to the most grassroots level that is appropriate)\, and continuous evolution through feedback. \nMeet your facilitator\nJerry Koch-Gonzalez is a cofounder of Sociocracy For All\, a nonprofit focused on training and consulting for egalitarian governance. Jerry is a founding resident of 32-year-old Cherry Hill Cohousing. Both organizations use sociocracy for their governance. Jerry is an ISCB-certified sociocracy consultant and co-author of two books about sociocracy: Many Voices One Song and From Here to There. We support groups and individuals exploring cohousing: planned neighbourhoods that combine private homes with shared indoor and outdoor spaces designed to support an active\, interdependent community life. Most cohousing groups make their decisions by consensus or consent-based methods such as sociocracy\, which is why we are so pleased to bring this training to Toronto. \nThis event is not hosted by or sponsored by the Toronto Public Library.
