Brampton’s Mount Pleasant Commons Opens Path to Homeownership for Households Earning as Little as $35,000
136-home development includes Redside Dace, Canada’s 1st affordable ownership cohousing community
BRAMPTON, ON (Sept. 22, 2026) — On September 21st at the Mount Pleasant Community Centre Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Regional Councillor Michael Palleschi and Councillor Navjit Brar joined community partners, housing advocates and prospective homeowners to mark the official sales launch of Mount Pleasant Commons, a 136-home community at 110–200 Varsity Drive in Brampton.
The innovative non-profit housing initiative is designed to bring homeownership within reach of working households that might otherwise be priced out of the market. Speakers highlighted how the City of Brampton’s strategic investment, combined with Home Opportunities Non-Profit’s development model, is creating ownership opportunities at household income levels more commonly associated with affordable rental housing.
Interested purchasers learned about available homes, eligibility requirements and pathways to ownership. Depending on household circumstances and available financing, homeownership opportunities begin at annual incomes of approximately $35,000 for a studio, $45,000 for a one-bedroom, $55,000 for a two-bedroom, $75,000 for a three-bedroom and $80,000 for a four-bedroom.
The City of Brampton is supporting the creation of this mixed-income, owner-occupied community for people who live or work in Brampton through approximately $19 million in financing for the initiative.
Mount Pleasant Commons will also be home to Redside Dace Cohousing, an innovative 39-home, multigenerational community led by Cohousing Options Canada Non-Profit and planned as Canada’s first affordable ownership cohousing community.
Attendees learned how they can become founding homeowners in Redside Dace and help shape its culture and community before moving in. The community combines private homeownership with more than 2,600 square feet of shared amenities, including a common house and kitchen, children’s space, community gardens and other spaces designed to bring neighbours together.
With a significant number of homes accessible to households earning between $35,000 and $85,000 annually, Redside Dace is designed to make the benefits of both homeownership and cohousing accessible to households that have traditionally faced financial barriers to each.
Mount Pleasant Commons has been brought together by Home Opportunities Non-Profit, Cohousing Options Canada Non-Profit, the City of Brampton and community partners, with support from organizations including the BlackNorth Initiative, Region of Peel and SE Health.
